Register rental agreements online to avoid legal hassles: Maharashtra registration department

The state registration department has urged residents to utilize its online facility for registering leave-and-licence rental agreements. This service allows users to draft, sign, pay stamp duty, and register agreements entirely online, eliminating the need for a visit to the sub-registrar.
Registration is mandatory under the state rent law, and agreements that are unregistered or under-stamped are not accepted as evidence, which can leave both tenants and property owners without legal protection. The applicable stamp duty consists of a small percentage of the rent plus the deposit, along with a fixed registration fee.
