Tesla Expands India Presence with New Office in Mumbai

Tesla has leased a 24,500 sq ft office space in Mumbai’s Kurla West area, marking its fourth office in India as part of its broader expansion strategy. The five-year lease, valued at over 24 crore, will be utilised to establish a vehicle service centre. This new space follows Tesla’s recent showroom lease in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and signals the company’s increasing operational presence and preparation for future manufacturing activities in India.

Tesla India Motor & Energy has signed the lease agreement in Macrotech Developers' Lodha Industrial and Logistics Park. The deal, registered in May, includes a starting monthly rent of 37.53 lakh, with a rent-free period of one month and ten days, and a 5% annual rent escalation. The lease term begins on April 20, and rent payments will start from June 1. Common Area Maintenance (CAM) charges are set at 10 per sq ft, with a 5% annual escalation.

This lease follows Tesla’s recent establishment of its showroom in BKC, marking a key milestone in its entry into India’s expanding electric vehicle (EV) market. The new office lease reflects Tesla’s readiness to scale operations in India, particularly after policy changes aimed at encouraging global EV manufacturers to invest and establish manufacturing units locally.

The expansion marks a significant step for Tesla as it builds a local ecosystem, signalling that the groundwork for future manufacturing and supply chain activities in India is underway.
