Ahead of the monsoon, the Pune civic administration has ordered residents and owners of dozens of structurally unsafe old wadas in the older parts of the city to vacate, and has lined up demolition of several ageing municipal residential blocks.

The drive follows a rain-related fatality and comes with a warning of enforcement, including police support, for those who do not comply. Alternative relocation options have been proposed in outlying areas to rehouse affected occupants.
