A 101-acre cluster in Andheri West, of which about 61 acres is slum land, has been chosen as the city's first large-scale slum cluster redevelopment under a new scheme intended to make Mumbai slum-free. The plan envisages 28,061 rehabilitation homes alongside schools, healthcare and open spaces.
Three large developers have entered competitive bids, each placing a deposit of about βΉ175 crore, with technical bids opened in early June 2026. The slum authority has identified close to 18 such cluster pockets citywide that could eventually benefit several lakh residents.
