Borivali Gets ₹341.59 Crore Flyover by 2028

Mumbai's western suburbs are set to receive a major road infrastructure upgrade as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) advances construction of a new cable-stayed flyover in Borivali.
The project, estimated at ₹341.59 crore, aims to provide a direct road connection between Western Express Highway and Link Road while reducing congestion along Dattapada Road.
The new structure is scheduled for completion by May 2028.
880-Metre Bridge to Bypass Three Junctions
The proposed flyover will measure approximately 880 metres in length, with a width varying between 15.3 metres and 21.5 metres.
Of the total length, approximately 500 metres will form the cable-stayed section.
The bridge will help motorists bypass three heavily used intersections: Rajendra Nagar Junction, Dattapada Cross Road Junction and the T-junction near Suswagat Hotel.
Currently, commuters travelling between Borivali East and West encounter delays at these junctions, particularly during peak traffic hours.
The flyover is designed to separate through traffic from local road movements.
Direct Connectivity Between WEH and Link Road
The bridge will begin near the eastern approach of the General Cariappa Rail Over Bridge and land approximately 70 metres before Western Express Highway in Borivali East.
It will connect with the existing road network through General Cariappa ROB and the Kora Kendra flyover, eventually providing a more continuous route towards Link Road.
The alignment is expected to reduce the number of traffic interruptions experienced by motorists travelling across Borivali.
Connection to Major Mumbai Infrastructure
The project is also being planned with future connectivity to the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (North) and the Thane–Borivali Twin Tunnel.
These proposed connections could improve travel between Borivali, Thane and other parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Better integration between major roads and local flyovers will be important as traffic volumes increase across the western suburbs.
Construction Progress and Deadline
According to the reported BMC construction update, approximately 70% of foundation and substructure work has been completed.
Work on the bridge's superstructure is currently underway.
The civic body is targeting May 2028 for completion, subject to construction progress and the remaining implementation requirements.
Once operational, the flyover is expected to reduce traffic delays, fuel consumption and congestion along the existing Dattapada Road route.
Impact on Borivali Real Estate
Infrastructure improvements can influence residential demand by making established neighbourhoods more accessible.
For Borivali, stronger east-west road connectivity could benefit residents travelling towards Western Express Highway, Link Road and neighbouring commercial destinations.
However, the actual improvement in commuting times and property demand will depend on the completed road connections and traffic conditions.
SANDEEP SADH'S TAKE: Borivali's biggest infrastructure challenge has been congestion between its eastern and western road networks. A direct flyover connection could improve everyday accessibility and strengthen the area's residential appeal.
